Grantmaking Snapshot: Mason City Community Schools

Project: Kids PLAY–Playground for Lincoln Area Youth

Movement and outdoor play are critical to a child’s learning and development. With no playground access, Lincoln Intermediate School found that nearly 50% of its students were sedentary during recess. Through community fundraising and grant support, the school purchased its first playground. Over 600 students in 5th and 6th grades at Lincoln Intermediate, and an additional 450 children attending nearby Roosevelt Elementary, now have access to obstacle course-style equipment featuring inclusive play pieces for all abilities.
