Grantmaking Snapshot: Mason City Community Garden

Growth, of the community and the abundant garden plants, is sprouting in Mason City. With grant funding from the Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation, the Leadership North Iowa Class of 2021 and the Mason City Parks and Recreation Department led an initiative to build a community garden on the grounds of the former Madison Elementary School to repurpose the underutilized space into a place of engagement, growth, and enriched health. The location of the new garden is key as it neighbors homes built by Habitat for Humanity. This garden will be a great backyard resource for many.
