Join #GivingTuesdayNow - A Movement of Generosity

May 5, 2020

Communities around the world, and right here in Iowa, are facing incredible challenges due to COVID-19. These impacts are creating extreme difficulties for those already facing social and economic inequities. Today, the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa is joining the world in #GivingTuesdayNow to raise awareness of the power of generosity as we all work to address the immediate needs and long-term effects of this pandemic.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity established as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Today is designed to generate grassroots generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world. It’s a day when we can all come together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.

CFNEIA and our affiliate community foundations appreciate your love of community. We know times are difficult and that is why, on this day, we want to lift up 3 ways to make a difference for the places you call home.

1.Support Response and Recovery

This moment calls for action, especially generosity for those able to give. Nonprofits in our local communities are stepping up to help the most vulnerable populations and others will be impacted greatly by the economic loss due to the pandemic. The Community Foundation encourages you to:

Make a gift directly to the organization you love now to help them address needs, both today and as they plan for long-term impacts. Nonprofits need financial support now more than ever.

Consider a gift to one of our COVID-19 response funds to support local nonprofits. The Community Foundation and many of its affiliate foundations have created COVID-19 disaster response funds. To date, these funds have granted over $250,0000 to nonprofits in our communities working on the frontlines.

2.Inspire Your Family and Friends

Now is the time to tell people about the causes you care about the most. Sharing information with your circle of influence helps nonprofits spread how they impact your community and what they need to support those they serve. Use your social media and word of mouth to spread the news of the good work nonprofits do to keep our communities healthy and strong.

3.Say Thank You

There are so many people making sure our communities make it through these trying times – healthcare providers, child care workers, essential retail employees, and nonprofit workers continuing to provide critical services and serving those most impacted by COVID-19 and its impact. NOW is the time to say thank you. Reach out in whatever way you can and let them know you appreciate what they do, their sacrifice, and that you care for them.

Use #GivingTuesdayNow to make a difference and support the causes and organization that mean the most to you! Today is an opportunity to join people around the world to stand together in unity and use the power of generosity to remain connected and heal. Every act of generosity counts!
