Judy Syverson began working for Decorah Parks and Recreation in 1976. For 45-years, she has helped propel the Decorah Parks and Recreation Department to become one of the premier departments in the Midwest, being a constant presence and voice helping lead the way.
“She is the first person to serve as administrative coordinator for the Department, and her knowledge of the Department and the parks and programs is unparalleled,” said Andy Nimrod, Decorah Parks and Recreation director.
When Judy retired in June this year, it marked a career of service and dedication to her community and to the thousands of people she had served through her work. The Judy Syverson Everybody Plays Fund was established with the Winneshiek County Community Foundation, a CFNEIA affiliate, to honor Judy’s incredible commitment. This fund will ensure all kids have the opportunity to participate in the Parks and Recreation Department programs by providing financial assistance to families who need it.
“Judy’s strong work ethic, zest for life, and commitment to the City of Decorah have left a mark on our community,” said Andy. “This fund is a fitting way to honor her and continue her legacy of service to all people who want to be active and enjoy the beauty of Decorah.”
