March 23, 2018

Construction continues at House of Hope’s new facility at 845 W. 4th Street, and as the project nears completion, interest in the organization’s work grows. On Thursday, March 22, a group of over 55 women with the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa’s Women in Philanthropy toured the site and helped organize diapers, bedding, and other necessities that will be part of helping single mothers at the heart of House of Hope’s mission.

“Having this group of women who are leaders in our community here to support our work was a great experience,” said Karin Rowe, Executive Director of House of Hope. “Community support of this project has been critical to its success and we value these partnerships.”

House of Hope is a program of Christian Community Development that works to empower homeless single mothers and give them and their children a chance at self-sufficiency. The new facility will increase the number of families served from 10 to 15 and provide space for expanded programming. The new site is the former building of Ross Christensen dentistry office and was donated by the Christensen family.

Women in Philanthropy has a history with House of Hope, granting nearly $20,000 to the organization since 2006 from the Women’s Fund held with the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. The Women’s Fund has granted nearly $100,000 to Black Hawk County nonprofits serving women and children since it was established in 1999. The Women in Philanthropy group advises grant decisions from the fund and gives members of the group opportunities to learn about and engage in issues facing women and children in the Cedar Valley. The 2018 grant cycle for Women’s Fund will open on May 10, with applications due by July 31. CFNEIA grant opportunities and applications can be found at www.cfneia.org/grants.

Women interested in joining Women in Philanthropy can visit www.cfneia.org/wip or contact Elizabeth Hackbarth, Director of Development with CFNEIA, at 319-243-1352 or by email.

House of Hope’s Build Hope Capital Campaign to finance building renovations is still in need of nearly $100,000 to reach its goal of $1.5 million.
