Winneshiek County Community Foundation Announces $13,500 in COVID-19 Disaster Response Grants

The Winneshiek County COVID-19 Disaster Response Fund, a fund of the Winneshiek County Community Foundation, has awarded four grants totaling $13,500 to organizations providing basic needs services and/or working with individuals and families who have been disproportionately impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Organizations receiving the operations support grants include:
- Aase Haugen Senior Services, $5,000
- Sunflower Child Development Center, $5,000
- Decorah Community Food Pantry, $1,000
- Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque, $2,500
Nonprofits in Winneshiek County were given the opportunity to apply for funding through a simple online application. The applications were then reviewed by a committee, represented by organizations coordinating pandemic response efforts in Winneshiek County.
“While granting out these disaster response funds is a good start, there is still more work to do and we need more funds to do it,” said Marcia McKelvey, chair of the Winneshiek County Community Foundation and representative of the Winneshiek County pandemic response effort. “We are asking for the community’s financial support to help us respond to our county’s needs.”
For individuals wishing to support COVID-19 response efforts in Winneshiek County, gifts can be made to the Winneshiek County COVID-19 Disaster Response Fund to provide more grant funding. Donations will be used to quickly move resources to where they are most needed and to adapt to evolving needs. Gifts can be made to the fund by going to cfneia.org/winneshiekcovidfund and clicking on the Give Today button. Gifts can also be directed to the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, 3117 Greenhill Circle, Cedar Falls, IA 50613. Checks should be made out to Winneshiek County COVID-19 Disaster Response Fund. Online gifts are strongly encouraged to have funds accessible for quick response to needs.
