Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa Announces 2021 Scholarship Award Numbers

July 6, 2021
The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa has awarded $500,973 in scholarships to students across its 20-county region. A total of 252 scholarships have been awarded as of July 6, to students pursuing higher education opportunities.
“We want to congratulate these students on their accomplishments, and we are honored to be part of supporting their dreams of furthering their education,” said Kaye Englin, CFNEIA President and CEO. “These scholarship opportunities are not possible without the vision of generous donors, past and present, who understand the student need and have a passion for education.”
CFNEIA scholarships are offered annually for high school seniors and college students, as well as adults, and are awarded based on various criteria, including, but not limited to, academic excellence, financial need, for pursuing certain careers or majors, past experiences, location or high school attended. The 2022 scholarship process will begin on January 10. CFNEIA is the largest independent scholarship provider in Iowa outside of colleges and universities.
As the cost of education continues to grow, scholarship opportunities provide students with much needed financial support. Student loan borrowers in the United States owed a collective $1.6 trillion in federal and private student loan debt as of March 31, 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
“Student debt continues to be an increasingly difficult economic barrier for young people, which directly impacts our communities,” said Englin. “These scholarships established by generous donors have become, and will continue to be, a critical resource for students.”
