Iowa County Community Foundation Distributes $121,000

The Iowa County Community Foundation (ICCF) held its 2019 grant awards ceremony at the Iowa County Fairgrounds on July 10, announcing the distribution of $121,018.94 in grants to 16 projects of organizations serving Iowa County.

"It is so rewarding to me be a part of a committee that can make such a large impact on a small county,” said Ellie Hawkins, ICCF committee chair.

Grant recipient organization, project the grant will fund, and grant amount are listed below by funding areas.

Art and Culture

• Amana Colonies Convention and Visitors Bureau, Amana Colonies App for iOS and Andriod, $10,222
• Parents and Leaders for Students (PALS), Choral Risers for Mary Welsh Elementary, $7,500

Community Betterment

• City of Ladora, Wayne Shaull Memorial Field, $4,946.94
• City of Williamsburg, Parks and Recreation - Park Equipment, $15,000
• Safe Haven of Iowa County, Triple Sink and Mop Sink, $3,675

Education

• English Valleys Community School District, Agricultural Science - Greenhouse Project, $5,000
• Iowa Valley Community School District, A Multi-Purpose Room, $7,000
• Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa, Cultivating a Skilled Future Workforce: Addressing Local Skills Gaps in Iowa County  Education, $1,000
• Kirkwood Community College Foundation, Future Talent Development: Strengthening the Talent Pipeline to High Demand Careers in Iowa County, $3,000

Health

• Compass Memorial Healthcare Foundation, Hospice Suite Renovation, $10,000
• Iowa County, Iowa County EMS - EKG Monitor/Defibrillator Replacement Project, $28,075
• Iowa County ISU Extension and Outreach, Pick A Better Snack - Nutrition Education Program for Youth, $5,000

Human Service

• Domestic Violence Intervention Program, Ensuring Safety of Victims of Domestic Violence in Iowa County, $2,500
• Iowa County, Emergency Management - Final Phase of Emergency Sheltering Project, $6,000
• Iowa County, Iowa County Rescue - Dive Team Equipment, $10,000
• Rural Employment Alternatives, Specialty Classes with a Community-Based Emphasis, $2,100

Grants are awarded through ICCF’s competitive grant process. Decisions on grant awards are determined by a local committee, which consists of volunteers from Iowa County. Grants may be awarded to projects in the program areas of: art and culture, community betterment, education, environment, health, historic preservation and human service. Grant applicants must be a 501(c)(3) designated organization (or government entity) serving Iowa County in order to be considered for funding.
