The Winneshiek County Community Foundation (WCCF) has announced that Roger Huinker has joined the organization as charitable advisor. Roger’s role will focus on connecting with people who are interested in learning more about the WCCF and how he can assist in helping them accomplish their charitable goals.

“Roger is a familiar face for many and it’s exciting to know his financial expertise and passion for the community will continue in this role with the Winneshiek County Community Foundation,” said Terry Gaumer, affiliate development director with the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa.

Huinker joins the WCCF after retiring in 2021 with 50 years of banking experience. His career began in May 1971 at Decorah State Bank. In 1996, the bank merged with Community First Bank, where he spent seven years. Huinker then moved on to Decorah Bank and Trust Company where he spent the last 18 years of his career. Throughout his time in the banking industry, he held many different positions including bookkeeper, teller, operations officer, assistant cashier, cashier, auditor and vice president trust officer.

Huinker earned his associate degree from Northeast Iowa Community College and later graduated from the Graduate School of Banking – University of Wisconsin Madison and ABA National Graduate Trust School – Northwestern University. Huinker is a certified senior advisor and taught the ABA Principles of Banking Course to many bank employees.

Huinker’s leadership extended beyond his work through his involvement with numerous community organizations over the years including Winneshiek Medical Center, St. Benedict Church and Decorah Rotary.

Huinker and his wife, Pat, have been married for over 45 years and they have three children and eight grandchildren together. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, golf, hiking, biking and attending grandchildren’s activities.

“I’m very much looking forward to this role which will allow me to actively be out in the community to deepen connections and create new ones and assist those who may be interested in finding ways to support causes they care about for good,” said Huinker.
