Funds Established to Support Horizons Unlimited of Palo Alto County
Palo Alto County Community Foundation
September 12, 2022
Horizons Unlimited of Palo Alto County Inc has established two funds with the Palo Alto County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, to support the organization's work to provide opportunities for individuals who have disabilities to develop their full potential in a positive atmosphere.
The Horizons Unlimited Endowment Fund is a permanent endowment fund, meaning the fund is invested and grows over time, providing a long-term, stable source of income to carry out the mission of the organization. The Horizons Unlimited Quasi Endowment Fund is also invested but allows for increased flexibility to access funds when needed.
Horizons Unlimited was incorporated in 1969 and currently serves 45 individuals and employs around 50 part-time and full-time staff who provide a unique variety of programs for people with disabilities.
“As the second largest nonprofit organization in Palo Alto County, we want to ensure we are addressing our needs now but also planning for the future and establishing these funds is one way to help us do that,” said Kathy Merrill, vice president of the board of directors at Horizons Unlimited. “If you are passionate about our organization or serving individuals with disabilities, we hope you will consider making a gift to one of our funds to support our impact in the community.”
Financial gifts of cash/check and stock are accepted through the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, 3117 Greenhill Circle, Cedar Falls, IA, 50613, which is the administrative office of the Palo Alto County Community Foundation. Checks to the endowment fund should be made payable to the Horizons Unlimited Endowment Fund. Gifts can also be made on the Community Foundation’s secure website at fund.cfneia.org/horizonsunlimited. Gifts to the endowment fund are eligible to receive a 25% state tax credit through the Endow Iowa program, cfneia.org/endowiowa.
Checks to the quasi endowment fund should be made payable to the Horizons Unlimited Quasi Endowment Fund. Gifts to the quasi endowment fund can also be made online at fund.cfneia.org/horizonsunlimited-quasi. Donors to the quasi fund can take advantage of normal federal deductions for charitable gifts.
Questions about giving to the funds may be directed to Terry Gaumer, affiliate development director with the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, at 319-243-1354 or tgaumer@cfneia.org.
The establishment of the Palo Alto County Community Foundation was made possible by the generosity of the Palo Alto County Gaming Development Corporation (PACGDC). The PACGDC continues to support the work of the Community Foundation through available match dollars to create new fund opportunities benefiting local nonprofit agencies.
