Floyd County Community Foundation awards $102,811 in grants to local organizations

The Floyd County Community Foundation held its annual grant awards ceremony on Wednesday, January 23, announcing the distribution of $102,811 in grants to 20 projects of area nonprofits and government agencies.

“The work these deserving organizations do to create a stronger county is critical to making our communities places where everyone can thrive,” said Charlie Newman, Floyd County Community Foundation committee chair. “The Floyd County Community Foundation is proud to be a partner in their work, and we are thankful for the generosity of community-minded people who make this impact possible.”

Grant recipients, the project the grant will fund, and the grant amount are listed below by funding areas.

Art & Culture:

  • Floyd County Fair Society, Aussie Kingdom, $10,000

Community Betterment:

  • Charles City Civic Foundation, Community Revitalization - Central Park Refurbishment, $3,537
  • Charles City Community School District, Charles City Sports Complex, $10,000
  • City of Floyd, Cedar River Access at Floyd, $4,000
  • City of Marble Rock, 2019 Marble Rock Main Street Park Project, $2,150
  • City of Rockford, Grow Rockford Together - Street Light Project, $4,000

Education:

  • Fossil & Prairie Center Foundation, Environmental Education - Outdoor Supplies Education, $950
  • Nashua-Plainfield Community Schools, History Matters Education, $500

Health:

  • Charles City Rotary, Rotary Club of Charles City - Breathe Easy, $2,738
  • Elderbridge Agency on Aging, North Iowa Vehicle Project, $2,500

Human Service: 

  • Charles City Family YMCA, Public Address System (Year 2 Request), $4,300
  • City of Charles City, Charles City Foster Grandparent Program, $5,000
  • City of Marble Rock, Marble Rock Emergency Siren 2018, $8,770
  • Comprehensive Systems, Spread Life Saving CPR, $4,000
  • Crisis Intervention Services, Services to Victims of Human Trafficking, $3,000
  • Grow Rockford Together Association, Rockford B/ASKids (Before/After School Kids) / SOAR (School's Out at Rockford), $3,000
  • Jordan River, Messiah's Food Pantry, $13,864
  • Lutheran Services in Iowa, Families Together in Floyd County, $3,500
  • Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Floyd County BackPack Program, $5,000
  • TLC: The Learning Center, Sustainability Empowerment, $12,000

Grants are awarded through FCCF’s competitive grant process. Decisions on grant awards are determined by a local governing committee, which consists of volunteers from Floyd County. Grants may be awarded to projects in the program areas of: art and culture, community betterment, education, environment, health, historic preservation and human service. Grant applicants must be a 501(c)(3) designated organization (or government entity) serving Floyd County in order to be considered for funding.

The 2019 grant cycle will open on August 15 with an application deadline of September 30, 2019.  More information including 2018 grant guidelines can be found at www.floydccf.org.
