The Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation (NBHF) has established an endowment fund with the Howard County Community Foundation in honor of Dr. Borlaug and to support the activities of the NBHF.
Dr. Norman Borlaug is remembered by the NBHF as one of the greatest humanitarians in history through his acts of humility and altruism. The NBHF preserves the birthplace and boyhood farms of Dr. Borlaug to share them with future generations, as he grew up learning about agriculture there. The NBHF holds educational events annually in both the spring and fall by hosting tours and day events for school children and adults. To “Honor the Man, Strengthen the Legacy,” these learning opportunities provide an environment to do so.
“The establishment of this endowment fund, in Dr. Borlaug’s name, allows us to provide the opportunities to learn about his work and life and to follow in his footsteps of giving back,” said Laura Schmauss, board president of the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation.
Online gifts can be made to the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation Endowment Fund at fund.cfneia.org/NBHF. Gifts of cash, check and stock are also accepted through the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, 3117 Greenhill Circle, Cedar Falls, IA, 50613.
Donations to endowed funds, like the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation Endowment Fund, with a qualified community foundation are eligible for a 25% state tax credit on the total value of the gift through the Endow Iowa Tax Credit Program. All qualified donors can carry forward the tax credit for up to five years after the year the donation was made. More information about Endow Iowa can be found at www.cfneia.org/endowiowa.
