Black Hawk County Grant Cycle Changes Better Align with Nonprofits
CFNEIA
October 20, 2022
The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa has changed its Black Hawk County grant cycle deadlines for 2023. The change is an effort to better align grant funding with the beginning of the fiscal years of nonprofit organizations which typically run from January 1 to December 31 or from June 1 to July 31. The move also shortens the wait between application deadlines and grant decisions, getting funding to nonprofits more quickly. The first 2023 cycle will open on November 15, 2022 with an application deadline of January 31, 2023 with grants awarded in March. The second cycle will open on May 15, 2023 with an application deadline of July 31 with grants awarded in September.
The change also aligns with CFNEIA’s nonprofit capacity building efforts which includes placing an emphasis on funding requests for general operating support. Requests can be made for programming, materials, equipment and capital projects. Priority is given to funding requests that align with the Foundation’s community initiatives of advancing racial equity, expanding child care, enhancing the arts, strengthening workforce readiness, and building nonprofit capacity, or address its areas of focus including arts and culture, community betterment, education and youth development, environment and animal welfare, health and human service.
Grant applicants must be a 501(c)(3) designated organization or government entity serving Black Hawk County in order to be considered for funding. The online grant application and grant guidelines may be found on CFNEIA’s website at www.cfneia.org/bhcgrants.
First-time grant applicants should contact Ras Smith, Director of Community Impact, at (319) 243-1356 or rsmith@cfneia.org prior to submitting an application.
