Community Foundation receives honor from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa

The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa has been named Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa’s Black Hawk County Program Champion of the Year. The announcement was made at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Start Something Big Breakfast event on December 8 in Cedar Falls.

The award recognizes CFNEIA’s leadership in supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters programming, including helping the organization expand its one-to-one mentoring into four new counties the regional nonprofit organizations share. This support contributed to the growth of BBBS program capacity by 128% over the past two years. CFNEIA and its affiliate community foundations have granted nearly $300,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa since 2003.

“The Community Foundation’s staff have empowered our agency to work hard and achieve great things for our youth and to maintain a strong, high-quality program,” said Katie Orlando, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa CEO. “These expectations from funders like the Community Foundation helped lead us to be selected by our national office as 2017’s Big Brothers Big Sisters Agency of the Year.”

Community Foundation staff have also been involved in volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters on two new initiatives; its Read to Succeed Mentoring Program and joining the organization in celebrating Dr. Seuss’s Birthday and Read Across America by reading to classrooms in the community in 2017.

“The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa is honored to have been recognized by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa,” said Kaye Englin, CFNEIA President and CEO. “The organization, under Katie Orlando’s leadership, has made incredible strides and we are excited to be part of impacting the lives of so many Littles and their Bigs.”
